![]() What Swinsian does for me is allowing me to have iOS 8 devices syncing fully via iTunes while listen to my music the way I want it in Swinsian. Yeah, but if you want to sync modern iOS devices your choices are limited. Actually my main house computer is a G5 running 10.5. They work and I see no need to update any farther. This thread is a good example of why not to jump on the "update to the newest" bandwagon.… I just don't have to fight the dreadful, almost unusable interface to hear my music. I use iTunes for certain videos that I need to sync to devices and I do sync devices, so I still open it. This can probably be solved with an applescript to copy playlists to iTunes. ![]() So all I have to do is open iTunes and then Swinsian or if open already choose "Import iTunes Library".Īlso playlists created in Swinsian doesn't sync back to devices, so if I need that I must create these in iTunes. I do that by placing new tracks that I purchase outside of iTMS in the "Add to iTunes" folder of my main library so that all tracks in there are automatically added to iTunes. While iTunes shares its library it sadly doesn't allow other apps to control it. The negative is mainly that new tracks has to be added to iTunes, if they are to be in iTunes. I already described the gains, which mainly is getting a better music player that finds tracks very fast, yet let me retain the iTunes library that I use for both sync and other music apps. I don't use Swinsian instead of iTunes as I think I already explained. Look for the section " This solved my question" right after my original first post and click the "See answer in context" to read the full post.īeyond that, please do your own research on differences. You can find my previous more detailed description of advantages and disadvantages on the first page. If you got an old iPod you're in luck with sync. ![]() Swinsian reads the iTunes Library, including smart playlists.įorget Sync to devices. Check it out if you want something more than iTunes.ĭid you miss my earlier posts on Swinsian? I feel now nothing is between me and music, just as iTunes supplied before version 11, and I'm a big fan of Swinsian. I'm also looking at translating my fav applescripts for tag handling, but I could of course use iTunes when I want to use those. I'm contemplating an applescript for that. The only sad side is that because Apple doesn't open for easy input back, except for via tags, ratings I make in Swinsian doesn't make it back to iTunes. This is big! I still use iTunes for syncing to my devices (Swinsian only handle older devices, which is a feature if you have those) and so I add all new files to iTunes automatically with the help of Hazel (great app) and when I open Swinsian it reads both library files of iTunes so my library is in sync. Swinsian allows me to mount the external drive, which I do via Newtech Voyager Q (Firewire), and I can use the external library side by side with my internal library. My older library is on a separate disc and despite a 1TB drive I have yet to find space for it. I have a large library also with lossless files in various formats, both originating from my CD and Vinyl collections as well newly bought stuff, usually from outside of iTMS. While it isn't perfect it's superior to iTunes for music consumption as well as library handling. I've since bought Swinsian for $19.95 and I'm a satisfied customer. ![]() ** I still want to use iTunes for Wifi syncing and iTunes match *I've been a user since it was called "Soundjam" so have seen them come since 15 years What suggestions for an improved user music experience do you have to share with us all?įor me Mavericks 10.9.x is the environment. are sane in an Apple-like way and user-friendly, now when Apple isn't, before having "features" that are really not that important.have the obvious features missing in iTunes present and implemented well. ![]()
